Finding Aid
A downloadable game
The archives are vast and winding. Still, flipping through papers, facts resonate: a connection made, a person and place and time pulled into focus. You are separated by time and material but still yearn to tell your stories, to hold off the oblivion of history a little longer.
Finding Aid is a letter-writing game for two players trying to connect across the vast distances of history. A hack of Beyond Reach by Annie Johnston-Glick. Written for Correspondence Jam!
“History pledges to be faithful to the limits of fact, evidence, and archive, even as those dead certainties are produced by terror. I wanted to write a romance that exceeded the fictions of history—I longed to write a new story…”

I really love the way this game explored the violence and disruption in archives - when I saw Saidiya Hartman invoked, I knew it would be good! I hope to play it with a friend someday.
